Purple Bud Automatic

Purple Bud Automatic is a feminized hybrid bred from some of the world’s most important cannabis gene pools. The main parents and ancestors of the strain can be traced directly back to the legendary indica cultivars from the Afghan Hindu Kush Mountains. The ancestors who contributed to the breeding program for the Purple Bud come from the Caribbean and the medical cannabis community in California.

Two carefully selected Afghani hash cultivars are the main influence behind Purple Bud Automatic’s stocky growth, fast flowering and high potency. Recessive sativa qualities were introduced via a very special Jamaican cultivar. This potent tropical plant gives Purple Bud some extra height, plus a lot of extra high after harvest!

The original White Label Purple Bud feminized cannabis strain was created by breeding that Afghan-Jamaican cross with an amazing double kush hybrid made from Dutch Hindu kush and purple kush from California. Ruderalis genes were recently added to the mix to make the strain auto-flowering. After several generations of backcrossing the plant with its ancestors, this trait stabilized, as did the strain’s colorful traits and high potency. Thus, the Purple Bud Automatic feminized cannabis seeds became an official White Label strain.

The main stem and upper side branches of Purple Bud Automatic produce the highest yields. With this Autoflowering strain, pruning (or ‘topping’) the stem and branches will not increase buds, as the vegetation period of Automatic strains cannot be extended to allow regeneration of pruned branches. Also, if the strain is grown indoors, the final height will not be raised or lowered by changing the light cycle.

Purple Bud Automatic has a total growing time of 13 to 14 weeks, with the last 8 to 10 weeks in bloom. This means that the plants will flower automatically after 4 to 6 weeks of vegetative growth, regardless of the photoperiod (light hours per day). At the end of the growing and flowering period, the mature plants have reached a height of 90 to 140 cm. They often bend under the weight of the resinous purple flowers.

The flowers of the Purple Bud Automatic start as groups of spiky calyxes at the nodes and bracts and quickly grow into firm buds. In the final weeks of flowering, the buds in the tops of the main stem and branches enlarge to form large colas. Rows of large green and purple calyxes also form along the lower branches, narrowing the space between the buds.

Purple Bud Automatic has many other colors besides green. The leaves range from dark blue-green to lavender, violet, burgundy and dark red. Unlike other strains, where a purple color is usually caused by too low a temperature and usually occurs on the leaf, the colors of Purple Bud Automatic are visible in the calyxes and large buds and on the leaves.

Although low temperatures during the flowering period can accentuate the purple color of the strain, plants with perfect conditions during the growth and flower cycle also display interesting colors. Purple Bud Automatic plants with lime green leaves that enhance the deep purple color of the buds are not uncommon.

This strain takes on an even more appetizing appearance when the mature flowers become covered in a layer of shimmering resin glands, adding a silvery sheen and accentuating the shades below. At their peak, the best Purple Bud Automatic plants have a colorful velvety appearance.

The dried buds taste and smell as delicious as they look, with a rich flavor of pine and sandalwood and sweet, fruity and musky undertones.
